ConBlot1 Stop Making Trendy Designs!

How many people can you think of that actually think the Cube from Nissan Dealers Cambridge is an attractive vehicle?  Auto makers seem to be taking extra liberty lately with their vehicle designs, and some of them are just too ugly to really consider driving.  While no one wants their next car from Alexandria Nissan to look like every other car driving around town, some vehicle designs are a little too outlandish for everyday use.  Some brands like Scion MD have made a name for themselves by creating trendy vehicles, but when you look at Scion’s sales records, now that the trend has passed their sales are slumping.

American auto brands have had to rethink their design strategy.  After several attempts at trying to think outside the typical car design, Chrysler created their PT Cruiser and Sebring.  Both designs were extraordinarily popular for a few years, but now that they still look the same as they did when they were first released, people are no longer impressed with them.  The design of the PT Cruiser is so unique that to give it a facelift would likely change the entire persona of the vehicle.  After all the domestic brands hit financial rock-bottom, they have had to throw their creative nature to the wayside and focus their efforts on practical designs that can withstand the test of time (like the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro).

Import brands still have not gotten the memo that they need to stop producing overly trendy vehicles that many consumers find to be downright ugly.  Some people might find the boxy nature of the Nissan Cube, Kia Soul, and Scion xB to be appealing, but the majority look at those vehicles as belonging solely to teenagers.  Eventually, even teenagers grow up and they will soon grow out of those trendy vehicles.  The better cue comes to us from Hyundai, who has chosen to significantly update the look of their Sonata but in a timeless, classic way that people will love over generations of time.
