Gas Prices On the Rise!

High Gas Prices Gas Prices On the Rise!

If you ask the employees about the fastest selling vehicles at Nissan Dealership New York, they will probably report back to you that their hybrid and compact models sell faster than their truck line up.  It is more than frustrating as a consumer to watch gas prices rise, fall, and then rise even more and we are pretty much helpless to stop the price trends.  Besides doing our part and buying the more economical cars from Nissan Dealership Salisbury, there are a few other tips and tricks that American consumers are being forced to implement in order to save money wherever we can.  According to a Nielsen survey, shoppers are realizing that they are better off buying an economical car from Scion Dealership MD and altering their driving habits if they really want to save money.

Think back to 2008 when gas prices averaged $4.11 per gallon.  Drivers were being very conscious of their driving habits and they were planning out their daily errands so that they were as fuel efficient as possible.  By lowering the amount of time that drivers were on the road, they were forced to find new ways to commute and we now see fewer drivers on the road today because the habits have carried over.  Even when the fuel prices dipped to an average of $1.61 per gallon later in 2008, drivers still were off the roads as much as possible.

Right now, the fuel price is averaging $3.05 per gallon.  That is tough on everyone’s budget and consumers spend less in other areas as well.  If you are unable to afford gas for daily use, then people are less likely to take vacations and long road trips.  One positive result of the steep gas prices has been that auto makers are being forced by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the fuel economy averages of all the vehicles they sell.  If we are able to drive more fuel efficient vehicles then the price of fuel becomes less expensive.  At the close side of this vicious circle is that these new fuel efficient vehicles often have expensive technology components that increase the price of the vehicle.

Luxury Cars: Loads of Features, Lacking Dependability

Audi A6 300x211 Luxury Cars: Loads of Features, Lacking Dependability Lucky for Boston Nissan Dealers that none of their vehicles are on the list of unreliable vehicles you are about to read.  Drivers across the country turn to Consumer Reports for their unbiased opinions on the performance of vehicles from Fairfield Nissan Dealership.  One of their most widely popular reports is the 2010 Dependability Survey, and we are sad to say that the five at the bottom of the list are luxury cars with large price tags.  It seems that if you are choosing to shop at a luxury brand such as BMW over Master Automotive Dealer that you should not have to worry about the quality or dependability of your vehicle.

Mercedes Benz E Class 300x199 Luxury Cars: Loads of Features, Lacking Dependability The 2010 MINI Cooper Convertible comes in with a rating of 100% below the average expectation for dependability.  There have been reports of issues with the cooling system as well as the fuel systems for this cute little car.  Drivers complain about road noise and paint flaws, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the dependability.  Also in this low ranking is the 2010 BMW 135i, which also came in 100% below expectations.  The main issue with this shiny little coupe is their fuel system, and several drivers report more than one repair even while under the warranty period.  The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe isn’t winning any awards that they would like to brag about.  There have been tons of service mandates ranging from the intricate fuel system to the in-your-face power accessories.

Coming in at 142% below the dependability average is the Audi A6 3.0T.  Audi vehicles are already quite expensive to repair, but if you factor in the problems that this particular model has had with their engine-cooling process, the luxury car starts to seem like a luxury money pit.  The biggest loser is quite surprising to consumers, and the Jaguar XF scores 143% below expectations.  The transmission is nothing to write home about, there have been reports of electrical problems, and for the small target audience it already has, Jaguar should have made sure that owners were satisfied with their financial investment.

Wind In Your Hair or Hearing Aids?

Convertible 300x224 Wind In Your Hair or Hearing Aids?We all love driving convertibles and sure do miss the cute little Del Sol that Pensacola Honda Dealers used to produce.  There have been some recent reports, though, that driving with the top down on the highway can have permanent damaging effects on your hearing.  It might be a blessing in disguise that the closest thing you’ll come to a convertible from Honda Dealership Colorado is a moonroof!  Despite the annoyance that driving with the top down can have on your hair, people still love driving in the sunshine but you might want to be more concerned with the damage to your hearing.  Another option is to buy a solid car from Honda Middletown and enjoy the great fuel economy!

Mustang Convertible 300x199 Wind In Your Hair or Hearing Aids? The Ear Institute of Texas did some research and tested five different convertibles to get a reading on how high the noise level was.  They tested the vehicles with the top up as well as with the top down and going at three different speed levels; 55, 65, and 75 mph.  They tested a 2001 Porsche 911 Carerra, a 2004 Nissan 350Z, a 2005 Ford Mustang GT, a 2005 Saab Aero Convertible, and finally a 2009 Saturn Sky 2.0 Turbo.  Noise is measured in decibels (dB) and anything above 85 dB is considered excessive by the U.S. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA as many of us are familiar with.

The results were surprising; with the top up, the Saab Convertible was the quietest reaching only 71.2 dB while traveling at 65 mph.  Again with the top up, the Porsche was the loudest, registering 77.8 dB while going 75 mph.  However, if you put the tops down, you can easily reach 104 dB in most convertibles.  To put it in perspective, 125 dB causes pain and your typical rock concert blasts 120 dB.  OSHA has limits set for workers of being around 100 dB  for a maximum of two hours per day or three hours at 97 dB.  While going 75 mph with the top down, the Saturn Sky registered 98.7 dB while the Nissan 350Z had a measurement of 95.3 dB.  All of these studies were done with the radio and air conditioner off, so think about how loud you have to turn the radio up so that you can hear it over the deafening wind?

Car Complaints Really Add Up

Car Logos Car Complaints Really Add Up

Despite how reputable the vehicles at places like Boston Toyota Dealership who carry Toyota vehicles, 16% of consumers still had something to complain about regarding their current Toyota vehicle.  It might still have something to do with the hefty amount of recalls in the recent years, but on the other hand, the vehicles over at Kentucky Toyota Dealers are still selling quickly enough for most of the brand’s dealerships to keep their doors open.  However, Dodge Dealers Alexandria need to be on their toes because Chrysler LLC took home the award for the most complaints by brand, with 4.1 complaints per 100,000 vehicles sold.

These statistics were tabulated by the expert analysts over at Edmunds who noticed that while the NHTSA does a great job of issuing recalls to keep drivers safe, a lot of the complaints that drivers notice on a daily basis seem to fall through the cracks.  If you have a complaint about your vehicle, you can fill out an online form or there is even a hotline you can call.  The NHTSA works closely with the ODI (Office of Defects Investigation) with regards to the complaints being made.  However, most of us have filled out these online generated forms and what one person might claim to be a billing issue someone else might classify as a service issue.  Because the filters aren’t foolproof, Edmunds has taken upon themselves the task of sorting through all the complaints to get a true sense of what is going on out there.

Because there are just far too many complaints to read all of them, Edmunds has begun their research as of complaints that were filed after January 1, 2005 and is only paying attention to complaints being made about vehicles made from 2005 and newer.  Consumers complain about a wide range of topics, all the way from powertrain complaints, seatbelts, headlights, and everything in between.  We are happy to report that November 2010 has had the lowest amount of complaints and represents an 18% decrease compared to September and a 6% decrease compared to October.

Be Green and Park in the Back!

CoNBlot Be Green and Park in the Back!

Some of the most frustrating times of your life will be the moments you spend behind the wheel of your Ewing Hyundai vehicle.  While most of us would like to think of ourselves as being cool as cucumbers, the truth is that many of us suffer from some degree of road rage.  It can be terrifying to pull out of Hyundai Dealership Hoover and have a near-accident with another driver who wasn’t paying attention to what they were doing.  On another note, many drivers are concerned with the environment, hence why they searched Hyundai Dealers Hartford for the best fuel efficient vehicle they could find.  These eco-conscious drivers may find themselves outraged as non-eco-friendly driving habits that they see happening on a daily basis.

Add to the level of frustration the fact that we are in the midst of the holiday season.  Running errands at this time of year can make you want to become a hermit.  One of the most frustrating things drivers do is sit and wait for you to load all of your packages into your vehicle so that they can have your premium parking space.  Looking for a parking spot in a crowded parking lot is a frustrating process for everyone involved, but feeling pressured by the person crowding you as you get into your vehicle can be the worst feeling ever.

ConBlot2 Be Green and Park in the Back!To make yourself feel a bit better as you slowly load your packages into your vehicle, think about how much fuel that impatient person is wasting.  When you are idling, you are really getting 0 miles to the gallon.  Some analysts estimate that idling for two minutes is like wasting one mile worth of fuel.  There is a simple solution to this problem and that is just to park at the back of the parking lot.  No one is going to be pressuring you to hurry if you park in the back of the lot because no one else wants to walk that far.  You will save money on gas because you won’t be driving slowly up and down lanes looking for a good spot, and you will get some extra exercise, something most of us can use during the food oriented holiday season.

Stop Making Trendy Designs!

ConBlot1 Stop Making Trendy Designs!

How many people can you think of that actually think the Cube from Nissan Dealers Cambridge is an attractive vehicle?  Auto makers seem to be taking extra liberty lately with their vehicle designs, and some of them are just too ugly to really consider driving.  While no one wants their next car from Alexandria Nissan to look like every other car driving around town, some vehicle designs are a little too outlandish for everyday use.  Some brands like Scion MD have made a name for themselves by creating trendy vehicles, but when you look at Scion’s sales records, now that the trend has passed their sales are slumping.

American auto brands have had to rethink their design strategy.  After several attempts at trying to think outside the typical car design, Chrysler created their PT Cruiser and Sebring.  Both designs were extraordinarily popular for a few years, but now that they still look the same as they did when they were first released, people are no longer impressed with them.  The design of the PT Cruiser is so unique that to give it a facelift would likely change the entire persona of the vehicle.  After all the domestic brands hit financial rock-bottom, they have had to throw their creative nature to the wayside and focus their efforts on practical designs that can withstand the test of time (like the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro).

Import brands still have not gotten the memo that they need to stop producing overly trendy vehicles that many consumers find to be downright ugly.  Some people might find the boxy nature of the Nissan Cube, Kia Soul, and Scion xB to be appealing, but the majority look at those vehicles as belonging solely to teenagers.  Eventually, even teenagers grow up and they will soon grow out of those trendy vehicles.  The better cue comes to us from Hyundai, who has chosen to significantly update the look of their Sonata but in a timeless, classic way that people will love over generations of time.

Car Un-Improvements!

In Dash Nav 300x264 Car Un Improvements!Think about how many hours of your life are spent inside your vehicle from Mercedes-Benz of Salisbury; chances are it is more than you would like to admit.  We spend hours every day commuting and when you think about driving for vacations and visiting family, the amount of time spent behind the wheel jumps up a lot!  There are a lot of improvements that have been made to the cars at Orillia Volkswagen, but sometimes you have to wonder if auto makers aren’t going a bit overboard?  When it comes to the safety features that are found on Nissan Sacramento cars, you can’t go overboard; that being said, we miss some stuff that has been replaced with the supposedly “new and improved” auto features.

Leatherette Car Un Improvements!A lot of vehicles have done away with cloth seats as the material used in the base model.  It has been replaced with a vinyl-like material that the manufacturers swear is just like leather but more durable and affordable.  I will agree that the more rugged material found inside the Subaru vehicles is a nice improvement to cheap cloth, but the fake leather we see inside some Volkswagen cars makes us miss good old cloth seats.  With the emergence of the ability to heat and cool cloth seats, we do not really understand why auto makers are still using pleather rather than an upgraded cloth material that looks nicer.

Another complaint about the current vehicles is the insistence on having in-dash navigation.  It has become a status symbol to have your navigation and entertainment controls on a 4-inch LCD screen installed into your dash.  However, operating some of these systems can be more trouble than they are worth.  And should that system break after your warranty has expired, the out-of-pocket repair cost is going to be so high you are probably just going to replace it with an aftermarket stereo and portable GPS system!

9 Cars That Could Be Safer

Inside a Car 9 Cars That Could Be Safer

For as much money as you spend Mercedes Deals Washington, you would expect that it would be a safe choice for you and your passengers.  However, it has just been brought to our attention that there are still nine vehicles that are being produced for 2011 without electronic stability control (ESC).  Luckily, none of the cars from Concord Mitsubishi Dealers are on this hot list.  There were quite a few vehicles back in 2010 that did not offer the safety technology as a standard feature, but laws that go into effect in 2012 will require that all vehicles come standard with ESC.  Until then, your next Chevrolet Aveo Columbus purchase will not come with ESC.

What makes the fact that nine cars are lagging in the safety department even more frustrating is that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) just implemented new and improved crash test ratings because so many vehicles were receiving perfect scores, so they had to make the process more stringent to encourage further safety technology developments.  There are safety regulations that go into effect in 2012 that will require ESC be a standard feature, so why are so many auto makers waiting until the last minute to include the technology?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety compiled results that for 2010 approximately 85% of vehicles came standard with ESC.  It was impressive that 100% of SUVs have the technology, but only 88% of cars include it.  Cars are especially vulnerable in the event of a multiple car collision because they weigh considerably less than SUVs and trucks.  The NHTSA estimates that it will cost consumers around $111 more to have the safety feature on cars, but that by making it mandatory, approximately 10,000 lives will be saved annually.  The nine offenders for 2011 that do not offer ESC as a standard feature (and some don’t even offer it at all) include: Chevrolet Aveo, Dodge Caliber, Honda Civic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mazda RX-8, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Versa, and Suzuki SX4.

Quit Bragging About Your Minivan!

Odyssey 300x200 Quit Bragging About Your Minivan! You might think that Greenfield Subaru Dealers have the right idea by catering specifically to their target market.  They make all-wheel drive vehicles that are great for outdoor enthusiasts who are also eco-conscious and concerned with safety.  The cars from Elm Grove Honda Dealers are usually incredibly fuel efficient and have impressive reliability ratings.  One thing we aren’t sure if we like or not, is the fact that all of their creative genius got pooled into their 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan.  There are tons of Dodge Discounts Glendale right now, and the minivan market isn’t exactly booming; so why put all your eggs in a failing basket?

You can easily upgrade the price of your 2011 Honda Odyssey to more than $44,000.  The fuel experts tell us that drivers will get 19 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway, and we have to give kudos to the Honda engineers for reducing the weight by more than 100 pounds, improving the power, and still managing to improve the fuel economy compared to prior years.  But, Honda has put their best amenities into the Odyssey and we think that their attention to the Accord and Civic isn’t quite up to par.

Odyssey Side View 300x200 Quit Bragging About Your Minivan! The Odyssey has earned Honda the number one spot in terms of minivan sales, and it is with good reason.  When you look at the current dwindling competition, it really isn’t that difficult to come out on top.  Consumers want to see that same effort given to the cars that the majority of people are driving; crossovers, compacts, and small SUVs.  Some credit is due for the new CR-V, and engineers did fix a lot of common complaints with regards to comfort and convenience.  But aside from that, the improvements have been few and far between for the rest of the line up.

Cars Quickly Losing Value!

Cobalt 300x193 Cars Quickly Losing Value!

There is nothing worse than taking out a Philadelphia Bad Credit Auto Loan to help finance a new car only to find out later that your car is worth a mere fraction of what you paid for it.  A lot of cars lose about 20% of their value the moment you drive them off the lot, and that is just a fact of life.  Even the cars at Bethel Park Nissan won’t trade in for the same amount that you once paid for them.  There are some things to look at before making a final purchase decision and some vehicles to avoid.  None of the Viejo Audi made our list of eight vehicles with the worst ability to retain their value.

Grand Marquis 300x225 Cars Quickly Losing Value!

In no particular order, the eight cars are: Kia Rio, Chevy Cobalt, Hyundai Accent, Mercury Grand Marquis, Saab 9-3, Smart ForTwo Cabriolet, Chrysler Sebring, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.  So why do vehicles lose their value and how can you make sure that yours won’t ever be on that list?  The experts at Kelley Blue Book say one of the biggest indicators of value retention is how recently the vehicle has been upgraded.  That might explain why the Chevy Cobalt and Mercury Grand Marquis are on this list.  Not only have both companies had financial distress, they haven’t taken the time to fix the products they already have.

Generally speaking, another indicator of how well your car will retain its value is how much you paid for it in the first place.  Usually the SUVs and luxury sedans cost a small fortune and they manage to retain a lot of that value over the course of ownership.  There are always exceptions to every rule, and we see that with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Saab 9-3.  For the most part, the small compacts like the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent are going to be the cars that lost their value quickly because they don’t have that much value to begin with.
