Car Complaints Really Add Up

Car Logos Car Complaints Really Add Up

Despite how reputable the vehicles at places like Boston Toyota Dealership who carry Toyota vehicles, 16% of consumers still had something to complain about regarding their current Toyota vehicle.  It might still have something to do with the hefty amount of recalls in the recent years, but on the other hand, the vehicles over at Kentucky Toyota Dealers are still selling quickly enough for most of the brand’s dealerships to keep their doors open.  However, Dodge Dealers Alexandria need to be on their toes because Chrysler LLC took home the award for the most complaints by brand, with 4.1 complaints per 100,000 vehicles sold.

These statistics were tabulated by the expert analysts over at Edmunds who noticed that while the NHTSA does a great job of issuing recalls to keep drivers safe, a lot of the complaints that drivers notice on a daily basis seem to fall through the cracks.  If you have a complaint about your vehicle, you can fill out an online form or there is even a hotline you can call.  The NHTSA works closely with the ODI (Office of Defects Investigation) with regards to the complaints being made.  However, most of us have filled out these online generated forms and what one person might claim to be a billing issue someone else might classify as a service issue.  Because the filters aren’t foolproof, Edmunds has taken upon themselves the task of sorting through all the complaints to get a true sense of what is going on out there.

Because there are just far too many complaints to read all of them, Edmunds has begun their research as of complaints that were filed after January 1, 2005 and is only paying attention to complaints being made about vehicles made from 2005 and newer.  Consumers complain about a wide range of topics, all the way from powertrain complaints, seatbelts, headlights, and everything in between.  We are happy to report that November 2010 has had the lowest amount of complaints and represents an 18% decrease compared to September and a 6% decrease compared to October.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee which is manufactured by Chrysler is currently under investigation.  The model may have potential fire hazards after accidents.  The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a popular jeep model that is in competition with models sold at Cincinnati Chevrolet Dealers.  Chrysler has not had major recalls for some time, and the latest news of a potential defect in its Jeep brand may be a big blow to the company as it attempts to rebound from bankruptcy.  Also, check your local VW Dealer for Volkswagen models which are still in high demand and have great reliability and have not had recall issues for some time.

Fayetteville Mazda Dealers sell Mazda vehicles that are excellent in quality and also have not had major problems for quite some time.  Jeep is looking into the problem and Chrysler has made it clear that the company will cooperate with the NHTSA as they investigate the issue.  There have been some reported deaths for the potential defect, and the defect occurs when the vehicle is rear ended or when it is involved in an accident.  The vehicle’s fuel tank has been shown to catch fire in some circumstances, and the reasons why it catches fire may be due to an improper or unsafe location.

Models from the years 1993-2004 were affected by the supposed defect, and there have been 13 deaths that may be related to the defect.  Further investigation  is necessary in order for the defect to be confirmed.  Once a defect is confirmed,  Chrysler will announce a recall of the affected models.  Until then, Chrysler warned that there is no consensus on whether there really is a defect or not, and that the company will have to wait and see what the results of the investigation are before issuing a recall.  The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a popular SUV model and the recall may affect up to 3 million models.

A study by J.D. Power found that Ford was the leader in new vehicle quality over European and Asian automakers for the first time in a long time.  The study is in its 24th year this year.  Revamped brands such as the Ford Lincoln, which is sold at a Concord Lincoln dealer and other dealers, have contributed to this improvement.  Also, the Big 3 automakers in Detroit were also ahead of Asian and European vehicles.  GM, Ford, and Chrysler, whose pre-owned models can be purchased at a Kansas city used car lot, averaged 108 problems per 100 vehicles while European and Asian vehicles averaged 109 problems per 100 vehicles.

The study said that models such as the Ford Fusion, Ford Focus, Dodge Ram, and Buick Enclave helped the American automakers take the top position in the study.  It is thought that Toyota Motor Corp. brought down the score of Asian automakers due to the recalls of 2010 that have affected several new models.  Toyota slipped below the industry average for the first time with 117 flaws per 100 models.

Foreign brands had better vehicle quality among the crossover, SUV, and van markets, while domestic brands had better quality among the car and pickup markets.

Ford was one of the strongest competing automakers with 12 models placing in the top three of their segments.  Ford averaged less than one problem for every new model.  Ford ranked eighth in 2009 and in 2010 they placed fifth overall, which is Ford’s highest rank ever in the 24 year history of the study.

GM’s quality declined as all four of their brands were below the industry average in the study.  GM did have 10 models ranked in the top three of their model segments.  GM’s Buick brand had 114 problems per 100 models which was an improvement from the previous study.

The car industry as a whole experienced more flaws per new vehicle as it increased to 109 problems per 100 vehicles in 2010 from 108 problems per 100 vehicles in 2009.
